  • Proof-like. (1) A numismatic item struck from proof polished dies but not from fully polished planchets or from plated dies. full proof must have both proof polished dies and planchets. Plated dies – with chromium or nickel plating – are done to lengthen die life.  During the 1960s Canada produced and sold sets of proof-like coins in lieu of full mirror proofs. See proof finish.
