Definition

• Spanish: Alteration, tampering with a coin to make it appear more valuable. A forgery done on a genuine coin, using tooling, embossing, plating or applying some element. Often the coin's date, mintmark or appearance is changed. If the intent is to deceive, legal action can result. These changes are usually done to increase the face value or numismatic worth.
