• Today�s Bolivia. It held vast riches in silver. By 1545 Pizarro knew of the huge silver works in Cerro Rico near Potos�. This, with the recently conquered Mexico, began two centuries of silver flowing from the Americas to Spain, Asia and Northern Europe. By 1570, Potos� was larger than London. By 1770, the city was twice Philadelphia�s size, at the time the largest British colonial city in North America.
