Definition

• Spanish: The king�s mint strongbox for slightly underweight coins. If mint workers in Spain or Spanish America produced too few coins per marco the entire batch of over-weight pieces was melted and re-coined. When extra coins were created by a batch being slightly light of the authorized weight they were deposited in the king�s iron chest.
