Armellino Public Deposited

Definition
  • A silver coin struck 1458-1494 by Ferdinand I of Spain. The coin bore a figure of an ermine (armellino) and was valued at 1/2 carlino. When Alfonso II and Fernando II copied it, the ermine was mistaken for a fox (volpe) and the coin then became known as a volpetta.
