Banknote Errors Public Deposited
- Modern U.S. currency goes through presses in sheets of 36 bills three times. The backs are printed first and allowed to dry. Then the fronts are printed and dried. Finally, an overprint press adds the serial numbers and U.S. Treasury shield. Then the stacks of bills are cut. The quality control system catches most errors. Yet with billions of notes produced annually, interesting errors end up in the numismatic market. These error types can occur with any banknotes in the world.
