• These have a longer life than paper notes, and they are difficult to fake without expensive machinery. By late 2015, some 26 countries used them. The high temperatures and humidity of the tropics causes paper notes to absorb moisture, becoming dirty and limp. Polymer banknotes do not absorb moisture, but dirty ones look just as bad as paper bills.
