  • These fall into at least 4 categories: 1. Fakes of real notes from real banks. 2. Bills from nonexistent banks or bearing designs never used by a bank. 3. Altered bills on which names and places of issue were erased, then replaced with false information. 4. Raised denomination banknotes whose original amounts were removed, then augmented, such as a $10 note changed to a $100.
