Blanquecedor Público Deposited
- Spanish: A blancher or coin cleaner. An artisan of the mints foundry in colonial Spanish America who blanched the gold and silver blanks by boiling them for a few seconds in an acid bath. Nitric acid was used for the gold planchets and sulfuric acid for the silver. These baths cleaned the metals so they would not plug dies. It also gave metals their natural color back after heating, trimming and hammering had discolored them.
