Contrahecho 上市 Deposited
- Spanish: Counterfeit, or a coin not meeting legal standards, an uncommon term. In the colonial period some Indians of the Americas counterfeited coins even as the viceroys had severe penalties for the crime. Silver coins were sometimes gold plated. The similarity in design of the gold and silver coins, plus a general ignorance of coins made this possible. A word used in the Spanish Americas not in Spain. Also: Monedero falso.
