  • A coin perhaps introduced during the reign of Fernando III of Castilla (1280-1252), whose value changed over the centuries. In the 1000s it was a small silver coin. Before Fernando & Isabel, it was worth 10 maraved�s. Coins with this name were minted in Castilla, Arag�n and Catalu�a, with differing values. 2. A Mallorca coin during the rule of Fernando VII which citizens considered of little value. 3. A denomination used in the decimal coinage systems of several Spanish American countries. 4. The word today simply means �money.�
