Definition

• A doubloon. The slang and sometimes official term for the Spanish American gold 8 escudo coins in English-speaking areas. The word did not strictly refer to the 8-escudo piece, but was used for such minor gold coins as doblon de dos escudos or even to certain silver coins on occasions. 2. A gold pattern coin struck in Uruguay in 1870.
