• A natural alloy of gold and silver, often with small amounts of copper. The specific gravity of pure silver is 10.48, gold is 19.28 and electrum ranges between these two. Pale electrum was an inexact means of evaluating the coin�s portion of gold, which varied from 30% to 60%.
