Ensayador Pubblico Deposited
- Spanish: Assayer. As a Spanish colonial mint official the assayer had to guarantee the quality of every coin that left the mint. The initials of assayers have appeared on Spanish American coins since the first mint opened in 1536, a tradition that dates to ancient times. Colonial laws over assayers were strict and violations were punished by death. Ranks of this office included: Ensayador primero, Ensayador segundo, Ensayador mayor, Ensayador interino, Ensayador titular and Ensayador supernumerario.
