Marco castillano Público Deposited
- A weight used in Spain and Spanish America for coining silver or gold. The number of reales coins per marco was specifically set and mint managers were required to come in just under that amount of reales or melt and re-coin all the pieces of that batch. The first mention of the marco was during the rule of Ramn Berenguer IV, count of Barcelona, in the mid-1100s. It weighed .23004 kilos. It continued in Spain until the metric system began in 1849.
