• Spanish: Proclamation medal. The European and Latin American context is a commemorative medal marking a significant event such as a coronation, royal wedding, national independence or new constitution. These were sometimes financed by regional dignitaries and distributed at official ceremonies. They were often the same size and weight as regular coins and sometimes entered circulation.
