定義
  • Spanish: Medallion. A large medal, a tradition which began in the Roman period. In modern numismatics it is an item wider than 3 inches or 80 mm. Those under an 8-inch (20 cm) diameter can be two sided. Larger items are almost always uniface. To some 'medallion' seems more impressive than 'medal.' In ancient Roman coinage medallion is used for multipla, special-purpose NCLT pieces with a defined value exactly related to the regular, contemporary coin weights. They may have been a means of keeping good relations with the leaders of bordering barbarian peoples. The term 'medal' as a coin-like object without a monetary function is correct only after the Renaissance.
