  • A small square silver 1/2 dirhem coin struck by the Almohades in Spain and North Africa in the 1100s. 2. A silver Spanish coin made to resemble the Arab dirham with legends that imitated, incorrectly, Arabic writing. These were abundant in the 1200s in Aragon, Cataluna and Valencia. Imitations were created by some French and Italian cities.
