Definition

• Spanish: Glass coin. There were glass coins over the centuries. Nummi vitrei were produced by Roman emperors in Egypt, and they continued into the Byzantine period. The Arabs adopted them as standard weights to test the accuracy of coins. Tokens in Oaxaca, Mexico, were made in glass, 1910-1920.
