Cast coin characteristics Öffentlichkeit Deposited

Definition
  • The metal in a cast coin is less dense than a die struck one. It is softer, more sponge-like metals, usually with a dull ring. The striking of a coin makes it both harder and more dense so it has a brighter ringing sound. Casting leaves bubbles on the surface, mold seams on the sides, slag deposits, a blank spot where the sprue met the coin mold, or repairs of any of these characteristics. Forgers avoid a copying a coin with gouges, cracks, cuts or delaminations that would cause it to stand out.
