Mufla Público Deposited
- Spanish: Muffle furnace. Historically, a furnace designed to keep flying ash, gases and other combustion products away from the molten metal, quite important in a mint. It was replaced in the 1900s by electric furnaces. Also called a retort furnace, a small furnace inside a larger one used to reconcentrate the heat. Such a device was used in the Spanish colonial mints and royal treasuries in the 1700s.
