• In the early 1980s a craze for third party certified grading swept the coin business. Uneducated speculators (an oxymoron), rather than take the effort to learn about what they were buying, demanded a crutch in the form of coin condition authenticating papers. No surprise, liberties were taken by the self-appointed experts who issued such documents. Undoubtedly a monumental scandal was hidden in this process. JMM
