- Spanish: A punch used in making dies that contained the major device to be impressed into the surface of the die. More commonly, punz�n. The word may also be used to mean a hub. A rarely used Latin term for �father of the die.� The more common word matrix for mother of the die means a master die used to make hubs which in turn are used to make working dies. A hub is usually the entire coin in relief while a punch is just a detail of the coin.
