  • The over-valued and crudely minted colonial silver coins from the Peruvian mints of Lima and Potos�. The coins were given this name to distinguish them from Mexico�s coins. In 1651 the Peruvian authorities had to mint a new type of coin with better silver. 2. A term in Spain for cob-type coins which were produced in its mints using silver from the Americas, principally that of Peru and Bolivia.
