- Several varieties of gold, silver and copper coins of medieval Spain first produced by Pedro II of Arag�n in 1285. The denomination was continued to the mid-1800s. The word comes from the Latin solidus, meaning solid. 2. An accounting coin in Barcelona and Valencia with a wide range of values. 3. A principal silver coin adopted by Bolivia of the same value as the real, or 1/8 peso after its independence in 1825. It was changed to the peso in 1859. 4. A 5 sueldos silver coin was produced during the rise of Catalu�a (1640-1652) equal to 2½ reales. At Perpignan, in the French Pyrenees, a billon sueldo was issued during the French occupation from 1642-1655. It bore the bust of Louis XIII of France, and a cross on the back, like the croats. 5. The sueldo of Fernando VII (1808-1833) was equal to six doblers. It was a copper coin made for Majorca.
