Vermeil Público Deposited

Definición
  • French for goldplated silver or silver gilt. A technique used occasionally on medals. Goldplated silver, bronze and other metals developed in France in mid 1700s. The early use of the term does not always mean the base metal is silver. Vermeil was hallmarked because of its precious metal content in the UK in 1904, in the USA since 1906. Private mints in the late 1900s used the term vermeil as it sounded elite. They could produce an item in silver that looked like gold. (pronounced vair-MAY).
