  Married with children.

  Conducted two auctions in Michigan in 1980 to 1982.

  Owner of Numismatic Services, Inc. and later Gary Adkins Associates.

  Member of PNG after 1985. President of the Professional Numismatists Guild in 2008 to 2009. President of Industry Council for Tangible Assets in 2010. Served on ANA board 2011-2015, elected ANA Vice President for 2015-17, and ANA President in 2017.

  He received an ANA Presidential Award in 2009. In 2010 he received the American Numismatic Association’s Harry J. Foreman Dealer of the Year award. In 2016 he received the PNG Lifetime Achievement Award. 

  At one time Adkins employed numismatists Ken Bressett, Mary Sauvain and Pete Smith. 

  In 2021 he was on the Coin World list of The Most Influential People in Numismatics 1960-2020.
