Leutze, Emanuel Gottlieb Público Deposited
Born at Gmund, Wurttemberg, Germany. His family settled in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He studied in Europe at Dusseldorf, Munich, Venice and Rome. He lived in Dusseldorf ca. 1845 to 1859. He married while living in Germany.
He died in Washington, D.C.
His best known painting was "Washington Crossing the Delaware." Luetze designed the State Department lifesaving medal (Julian LS-1). He designed the Cornelius Vanderbilt medal (Julian PE-36) to be engraved by Salathiel Ellis.
