Bio

• Married to Adelaide with four children. Emigrated from Rotterdam and settled in Flagtown, New Jersey. Employed as a sign painter.

  Known as “Jim the Penman.” He counterfeited currency with pencil and paint brush. He traced the design from real notes onto damp Crane bond paper. It is estimated that he passed $40,000 in bad notes between 1883 and 1896. He was caught, convicted and served four years in prison.
