• Born in Woburn, Massachusetts. Married Jane Kingsley August 21, 1941. They had three children. Received A.B. from Middlebury College in 1934 and M.A. in 1939. Served as lieutenant commander in the U. S. Navy 1941 to 1946 in Australia and New Guinea.

  Employed by New York Public Library 1935 to 1936; Middlebury College 1936 to 1941; librarian for Kenyon College 1946 to 1951; director of libraries for the University of Cincinnati 1951 to 1956; at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut after 1956.

  Author of Connecticut's Colonial and Continental Money in 1976.
