Bio

• Born in Ogden, Utah. Married to Nell. Speculator in real estate and stocks.  He lived on an 80 square mile estate nearf Reno, Nevada.  He had a reputation for being thrifty. Convicted of tax evasion in 1960 and served 18 months in prison. His wealth was estimated at $200 million at the time of his death.

  His house was burglarized on February 29, 1952, with the gang of thieves apprehended shortly thereafter. While investigating, the FBI discovered evidence of tax evasion which they turned orer to the IRS for prosecution.

  Redfield accumulated a hoard of 407,283 silver dollars. They were acquired from local banks at face value. However, he distrusted banks and kept the hoard in bags in his basement. The hoard was acquired by A-Mark for 7.3 million dollars in 1976. This was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as highest price paid for a coin collection.
