  Born in Rochester, New York. Graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1959 with a degree in journalism. Married to PatRICIA. Employed with the Asbury Park (NJ) Press 1964 to 1980. Wrote a coin column for the New York Times from July 1, 1979, to January of 1989. With The Record of Hackensack (NJ) 1983 until his death. 

  In 1972 he joined the editorial staff of Krause Publications as editor of Numismatic News Weekly. Editor of the NLG Newsletter 1981 to 1982. Senior editor of COINage magazine 1986 to 2017. In 1990 he was named executive director and newsletter editor for the NLG. The newsletter position was soon given to David Ganz.

  He received the Glenn Smedley Memorial Award in 1997 and Medal of Merit in 1998.  In 2014 he was awarded the Burnett Anderson Memorial Award for Excellence in Numismatic Writing.

  He died in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
