  • Born in Hartford, Oxford County, Maine. Enlisted August 15, 1863, as private in Company B, 8th Maine Regiment. He was wounded at Bermuda Hundred May 20, 1864. On April 14, 1865, he was detailed as a nurse to attend to Secretary of State William Seward who had been injured in a carriage accident. He entered Seward's room and discovered Lewis Paine (Lewis Thornton Powell) with a knife. Robinson and Paine struggled, Robinson was cut on the forehead, and Paine escaped. Congress honored Robinson with a medal and five thousand dollars for saving the life of Seward.

    Employed as a clerk in the Treasury Department June 1865 to August 1866; with quartermaster general's office after December 1868. He later became major and paymaster in the regular army. He retired in 1896.

    The award medal (Julian PE-27) was engraved by Anthony Paquet after a design by G. Y. Coffin. It was presented to Robinson November 16, 1873.

    He died in Los Angeles.
