Born on his father’s farm near Byfield, Deleware. Unmarried.
On the evening of July 1, 1776, he rode 80 miles in a thunderstorm to vote in favor of the Declaration of Independence.
Elected President of Deleware on March 31, 1778. Elected to Congress but unable to serve because of bad health. He died at home in Delaware.
