• Born in Washington, D.C.. Graduated from Georgetown University.

  Employed as a bookkeeper in the BEP December 1, 1869. In April 1873 he became chief accountant. Promoted March 1882 to assistant director until June 30, 1906.

  He served as 11th Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing from July 1, 1906, through May 4, 1908. He died in office.
