Sully, Thomas Público Deposited
Born in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, England. He came to America in 1792 and settled in Charleston, South Carolina. Married in 1805 with nine children. Moved to New York City in 1806 and to Philadelphia in 1809. Sully is known to have painted more than 2000 portraits. He died in Philadelphia.

A drawing of the Seated Liberty by Sully was discovered by chief engraver Frank Gasparro. It is believed the drawing was originally requested by Robert Maskell Patterson.
