  Served on president’s council of economic advisors 1982-83; Professor of Economics at Harvard 1983-93; chief economist for World bank 1991-93

  Under Secretary 1993-95; Deputy Secretary 1995-99; Served as Secretary of the Treasury July 2, 1999, to January 20, 2001. President of Harvard University 2001 to 2006.
