Biografia
  • Born in Anamosa, Iowa. Student at Minneapolis Handicraft Guild 1910 to 1912. Student at Art Institute of Chicago 1912 to 1914. Served with U.S. Army AEF Camoflage Division 1918 to 1919. Taught art in Cedar Rapids public schools 1919 to 1924. Married Sara Sherman Maxon March 2, 1935.

    His most famous painting was American Gothic in 1930. It is exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago. He died in Iowa City, Iowa.

    Wood appeared on the one ounce American Arts Gold Medallion for 1980. Five hundred thousand pieces were struck, 312,709 were sold and the remaining 187,291 were melted.
