  At 8pm on the first Sunday of every month, the COIN TALK radio show is broadcast to listeners in Western Pennsylvania, courtesy of the Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists and several local sponsors.    Topics cover the whole range of numismatics, from collecting U.S. coins by date and mintmark, to foreign and ancient coins, tokens, medals and paper money.    The show is in an interview format, with host Sam Deep conversing with local and national coin experts.   Wayne Homren is a regular guest on the show; other guests have included Brenda Bishop of the American Numismatic Association, local collectors and dealers, and PAN President Kathy Sarosi.  “They do a wonderful job with it,” she said. “It’s so cool that PAN has a radio show.  I’ve had people come up to me at coin shows to tell me they heard it.” said Ms. Sarosi.
  
  The half-hour program is designed to hook new collectors as well as highlight interesting information that experienced collectors may not be aware of.   “Everything is fair game for discussion,” said Mr. Deep.  “We discuss the high-profile multi-million-dollar coins like the 1933 double eagle and 1804 dollar, but also make people aware of upcoming design changes, such as the new 2004 nickel designs and the proposals for new Lincoln cent designs in 2009.”   It’s not a call-in show, however.  “We didn’t want to get into the ‘how much is this worth’ questions – they can visit our sponsor dealers or attend the PAN shows for that.” said Mr. Homren.    Instead, the interview format allows for informal discussions of a wide range of topics.  “It’s just one more way for PAN to get the word out about the hobby and promote numismatic education.”  The program airs on KQV 1410-AM, a Pittsburgh News/Talk station.
