Walton, George Owem Public Deposited
- Resident of Roanoke, Virginia, and later Charlotte, North Carolina. Free-lance real estate appraiser. One of the founders of the Mid-Atlantic Numismatic Association and past president. Unmarried. He was killed in a head-on auto crash near Middlesex, North Carolina. At the time of his death he was on his way to display part of his collection at the Wilson-Goldsboro Coin Club Show in Wilson, South Carolina.
The 1913 Liberty Nickel he owned was declared suspect by Stack’s and withheld from his auction. After an extensive public search for the fifth 1913 nickel, It was found that the Walton piece is an authentic example.
Duplicates from his collection were sold by Stack's June 20-22, 1963. A complete set of Panama-Pacific coins sold for $8400. His primary collection was sold at auction by Stack's October 2-5, 1963. The collection was strong on U.S. gold and Pioneer and Territorial gold.
