  • Born in Springfield, Missouri, and died in Rye, New York. He received a Pulitzer Prize for his biography of Sam Houston in 1929 and Andrew Jackson in 1937.

    Co author, with Bessie Rowland, of Biography of a Bank: The Story of Bank of America (1954).
