Sweeney, James O(liver) Public Deposited
Born in White Plains, New York. He received a B. S. in electrical engineering from Clemson University in 1939. Married Virginia Brown in 1941. Served with the Signal Corps in the China Burma India Theater during WWII, advancing to the rank of Major. Executive with General Electric Company for forty years until retirement. He had a special interest in round dated coins, such as 1900. Member of the Numismatic Literary Guild.
Author of A Numismatic History of the Birmingham Mint (1981); author of The MITAD Tokens of Latin America (1991) included with TAMS Journal of February 1991; author with Dr. Robert Turfboer of Tempus in Nummis (1992) and Three Hundred Years of British Calendar Medals 1650-1960 (2004).
He died at home in Highlands, North Carolina.
