Born on a farm near Parma, Missouri. Married to Elizabeth “Betty” Stirling with daughters. Employed with General Motors until retirement in 1981.
He attended the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition where he saw elongated coin machines. He collected the coins 50 years later.
Past President of the Michigan State Numismatic Society. Vice President and Prestident for TEC The Elongated Collector. Honored with a Numismatic News Numismatic Ambassador Award in 1993.
In 1981 he bought a rolling machine and began producing elongated coins. He travels the country promoting the hobby at coin shows.
He received the ANA Outstanding Club Representative Award in 2003, Glenn Smedley memorial Award in 2005, Medal of Merit in 2009 and Adna G. Wilde Award for Excellence in 2013. In 2017 he was inducted into the ANA Hall of fame.
He died at home in Fenton, Michigan.
