Biografia
  • Born in Clayton, Glouster County, New Jersey. Married to Edith F. They had a son and a daughter. He moved to Woodbury, New Jersey in 1883, to Philadelphia in 1889 and to Baltimore in 1893. Employed in the printing and publishing business.

    He began collecting coins in 1901 and joined the ANA the same year. He served on the board of governors 1905 to 1907, as general secretary 1909 and 1910, as vice president 1912 and 1913. Served as 10th ANA President August 27, 1913, to September 1, 1915. On August 1, 1915, he became editor of The Numismatist. He contributed articles under the pen name, “Portuguese Joe.” His last issue was published for September 1942. He had served as editor for 27 years. He died in Baltimore. In 1969 he was elected to the ANA Numismatic Hall of Fame.
