Obverse Description: A portrait bearing the likeness of a Native American in full headdress framed by the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery. The date is centered at the bottom under the portrait.
Reverse Description: The reverse bears the denomination of ONE CENT in the center surrounded by a wreath bearing a ribbon with arrows tied in at the bottom center.
General Notes: The mintage for the 1901 Indian Cent is 1,985 coins struck. Brown pieces are common along with red-brown with the finest gems being scarce. Full red gems are also scarce with the finest ones being very rare. Any grade with a cameo is scarce, at a minimum, with high Mint State grades being rare. Look for attractively toned brown pieces or blazing red surfaces. They are the extremely desirable and not too hard to find.
