Understood, and agreed. But if I’m not mistaken, the LC census only includes coins that the “compiler of the data” has either personally viewed, or that have been viewed by one or two trusted minions, or of which photographs were taken (?).
Due to technology advances since census data first began being recorded, I personally now believe it has become necessary (or even mandatory) that any CC listing become a photographic (film or digital) compilation, and not just one of descriptions. How that translates into using it in a catalog or other written work is another question.
Differences of opinion regarding even technical grades of coins will never go away….introduce “net grading” into the picture and you’ve just screwed it up beyond any hope of ever getting it to work.
I don’t have answers to a lot of these questions, but ain’t that half the fun of it?
