What a neat, exciting coin! While I understand the skepitics, at
first blush this looks like a real NJ to me. Of course it needs to
be studied in detail in person. But both sides look like new dies,
and it looks like a struck coin to me (and you mention it rings). If
it shared a die with a known NJ, then the route to verifying it as a
new discovery would be more clear. Both sides/new dies will much
harder to authenticate. However, great find! I hope that this is
the discovery coin that at first sight it seems to have the
possibility to be. Every friend of mine should have the once in a
lifetime opportunity to come across a "discovery coin".
One question for the group: Mike H. was mentioned. Who else would be
a very knowledgeable, trusted person to show such a "find" to? How
does a finder move down the path with such a coin. It seems to me
that if 2 or 3 of the most trusted people see it in person and offer
the opinion that it is indeed real, then the rest of the fraterity
will accept that at face value. Is that the path? If so, who are the
right people? And then how do you publicize it?
