I actually received the PCGS pics last Friday; 11 total early copper=20
counterfeits caught in a submission. 2 half cents and 9 early lc's- pics=20
posted on Copper Notes Facebook page; submission also included various=20
silver "coins" thrown in. I intend to follow up with my contact there=20
and verify if there were any Colonials.
The EAC group has documented 5 counterfeit 1798 "S-158's", all in slabs=20
(3 NGC, 1 PCGS, 1 ICG), and 3 counterfeit 1803 "half cents", all in NGC=20
slabs. The 1803 "source" coin was found to be an NGC slabbed example=20
sold last year in a Goldberg auction- all carry the same "circulation"=20
marks (scratches in the same place, die chips, etc. that aren't=20
associated with die states) as the key attribution points. It becomes=20
more obvious when you have a couple to examine together than just a=20
single example. My example "S-158" was raw and passed through some very=20
    experienced EAC'ers as genuine in
    hand; very deceptive!
    Best,
    Jack
