Actually there are three sides to every coin, and you would do well to look
at them all.

I also think that a grade is essential to each side, often times they are
congruent, but often times, they are not, especially in the colonial world.

When the issue is 'condition census,' I would argue that condition is the
average grade of two sides, or net grade, e.g., using the 70 point scale,
(XF 40+ VF 20)/2 = VF 30 net.
But, because grading standards and measurements can be very subjective,
this is all academic to the credence buy it if you like it.

After all, there are two sides to every coin/story.

Does anyone agree with me that grades should always be split Obv/Rev
as opposed to ONLY one grade for the entire coin.....I could own a
coin with a perfect mint state obverse that someone took a nail to on
the reverse....this coin could be light years better on the obverse
than the highest condition census coin but because of the reverse
damage, people have to look at an inferior obverse as the number one
coin. (which it is overall, but not taken seperately)
